As women, we are innately social beings. Since the beginning of time, we’re known throughout history for our connections with family, friends, community and beyond. Being connected often makes us feel safe and secure.
To the contrary, we have also known that social isolation can have a negative impact on our mental and physical health. Therapist even recommend increasing our social support systems as a part of our wellness care plans.
The book of John, chapter four also offers a social model for our consideration. Socially, Jesus (a Jew) and the Samaritan woman were not supposed to be associated with one another. However, He didn’t allow the conditions of the time to determine His outcome and service to others. Neither can we. He saw a need and He filled it. He changed His method and still shared His message and by doing so, a need was met. In this scripture, they used buckets, maybe today, it would be virtual connections. I don’t know about you but it’s always refreshing to find models in scripture that can help guide us in times of need.
Here’s a few reflection prompts:
Who is a part of your social support system?
What do social connections look/feel like for you in this season?
Journal about a time when you had to push past a barrier to fulfill something purposeful.
